Aalamwaar Hyderabad, India
Hand Block Printed Natural Fabrics based on the textiles of ancient India
The two sisters behind Aalamwaar, Vijay and Archita Reddy, are passionate about the preservation of textile arts of India. Their mission is to enable artisans in remote villages across India to continue the practice of age-old traditional textile arts. By employing grass-roots artisans, Aalamwaar aims to create livelihood for indigenous craftspeople and their families as well as to preserve hand-dyeing, hand-block printing, hand weaving and fabric-painting arts in India. Aalamwaar uses only natural fabrics and small producers throughout India. Each piece of fabric is hand-dyed, block-printed and then finished at Aalamwaar's workshop in Hyderabad, India.
The designer behind the line, Viji Reddy, is a painter, ceramist and textile designer and is also a thoroughly modern woman at the front of an arc that reaches back to ancient craft traditions of India.
