Detail of a hand-woven cotton fabric in an intricate gridded stripe pattern in shades of blue, white, red and yellow.

Xylophone Woven

Designed and woven by women in Ghana, West Africa. 20% of profits return to local Ghana community.

Empty gourds of differing sizes are strung together across a wooden frame and given little wooden hats which are then rhythmically drummed. Our fabric pattern represents the hypnotic tunes that have a central theme, but sound like mellifluous babbling brooks. These tunes take years of apprenticeship and dedication to understand and learn.
